Biography

Eric McCormack is a Canadian-American actor who started in high school plays in Toronto. He left Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1985 for a job at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, acting on stage there for five years. He moved to Los Angeles and made his film debut in The Lost World (1992), also appearing in Return to the Lost World (1992) and Double, Double, Toil and Trouble (1993). His breakthrough was as Will Truman on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace, which premiered in September 1998 and earned him four Emmy nominations, a 2001 win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Golden Globe nominations. He made his Broadway debut in The Music Man in 2001. Other screen work includes Holy Man (1998), The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000), Borrowed Hearts (1997), Alien Trespass (2009), and My One and Only (2009). He starred as Dr. Daniel Pierce in Perception and in Travelers, and joined the cast of Departure in 2021.

In a 2003 Guardian interview, McCormack said he tried out "two or three times" for the Friends role of Ross Geller, which went to David Schwimmer.

McCormack started a production company, Big Cattle Productions, to create television ideas. Its projects include Lovespring International and Imperfect Union.
Beyond film
McCormack recorded Elton John and Bernie Taupin's 1970 song "The Greatest Discovery" for the 2006 album Unexpected Dreams, and wrote and sang "Living with Grace" for the Will & Grace soundtrack.
