Ellen Geer
Biography
Ellen Geer is an American actress, theater director and professor who began her career on stage with the Minnesota Theatre Company, where she took part in the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre's opening seasons in Minneapolis and played the lead in a production of Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan. She made her film debut as a nun in Petulia (1968) and appeared with her father, Will Geer, in The Reivers (1969). In 1971 she played the lead character's deceased wife in Kotch, became a regular on The Jimmy Stewart Show and had a supporting role in Harold and Maude. She wrote and starred in two 1974 films, Silence and Memory of Us. Her later work was mostly television, with guest roles and recurring parts on Falcon Crest and Beauty and the Beast, and she appeared in Over the Edge (1979). She has been artistic director of the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum since 1978 and taught acting at UCLA for 12 years.
