Plot summary
Joseph Kotcher, known to everyone as Kotch, has retired from selling and lives with his son Gerald, Gerald's wife Wilma and their baby, Duncan. Wilma hires a teenager, Erica Herzenstiel, to mind the baby. Kotch's interruptions and a trip to the park where Erica leaves him behind end with a rescued child, an offended mother and Gerald's displeasure. Wilma, tired of his remarks about her tranquilizers, tells Gerald that his father must go. Gerald shows him a retirement community whose tests Kotch refuses to take. Finding Erica at her high school, unhappily pregnant and set on leaving for work in San Bernardino, he presses money on her, then boards buses with postcards for Duncan.
