Plot summary
In Talbot, Ohio, the Ferro family cannot cover the cost of the father's operations, and Vince Ferro works as an electrician. He overhears a man describe work that pays a fortune in one day. After that man dies of an overdose, Vince takes the instructions and cell phone left behind, takes a train to New York and waits to be contacted, not knowing what the job is. The contact sends him to an isolated house, where rich spectators wager on a Russian roulette contest among numbered men. Vince becomes number 13, accepted in the dead man's place. Ronald Lynn Bagges, whose brother Jasper bets on him, has come from a mental institution to compete, and Patrick Jefferson, escorted by Jimmy, bargains over stolen loot.
