Big break
A friend told Atkins to audition for The Blue Lagoon. Randal Kleiser, the film's director, said Atkins was a sailing instructor who had no acting experience when he got the part.
About the name
Atkins dropped his last name, Bomann, and took his middle name, Atkins, as his professional surname when he began acting.
Behind the award
Atkins took home the 1983 Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor for the film A Night in Heaven, which came out that same year.
A change of course
Atkins went into luxury pool construction and helped create the Christopher Atkins Strike Jacket E.F.L., which stands for Extreme Fishing Lure and is described as a rubbery slipcovering for traditional baits.
