Amanda Peterson
Biography
Amanda Peterson was an American actress whose career began in childhood. Raised in Greeley, Colorado, she first took the stage at seven in a University of Northern Colorado staging of The Sound of Music, and at eleven she was a dancing extra in Annie. Guest parts on Father Murphy and Silver Spoons followed, along with work in more than fifty commercials, and she played Squirt Sawyer on the NBC drama Boone between 1983 and 1984. Her first major film role was Lori Swenson in Explorers (1985). She won a Young Artist Award for playing Sunny Sisk in the miniseries A Year in the Life, and her lead turn as Cindy Mancini in Can't Buy Me Love (1987) brought her teen idol fame. Later films included The Lawless Land (1988), Listen to Me (1989) and Fatal Charm (1990). She retired from acting after a recurring part on Jack's Place and a last screen role in WindRunner (1994).

Peterson was seven when she first appeared on stage, playing Gretl von Trapp in The Sound of Music at the University of Northern Colorado.
Big break
In 1986, at 15, Peterson was cast as Cindy Mancini in the Buena Vista romantic comedy Boy Rents Girl. After producers got the rights to The Beatles' 1964 song, the title became Can't Buy Me Love.
Early training
Peterson went to Middlebury College, where she took part in a black box staging of Masterpieces, a play by Sarah Daniels, and also guested on Doogie Howser, M.D. during a semester break.
