Christian Rub
Biography
Christian Rub was an Austrian-born American character actor who appeared in more than 100 films from the late 1910s into the early 1950s. Born in 1886, he worked as a comedian in Germany as a boy and at 15 acted in a French drama at Vienna's Imperial theater, later touring the Tyrolean Alps with a company. He played Ernest Rodel in Spring Awakening, and in the early 1930s took a dramatic stage role in a Los Angeles production of Grand Hotel. His first screen appearance came in the 1919 movie The Belle of New York, and he was a star of Hollywood two-reel comedies in the early 1920s. He voiced Geppetto in the Disney animated feature Pinocchio (1940), taking over the part from an earlier actor, and lent his voice to elderly characters in cartoons for Warner Bros., Fox and MGM. His last film role came in Something for the Birds (1952), and he died in 1956.
