Benny Rubin
Biography
Benny Rubin was an American comedian and actor whose radio, film, and television work spanned 50 years and more than 200 appearances. Born in Boston, he went to Hollywood in 1929 and began as a supporting player, developing the ethnic characters and dialects that became his specialty. His film debut came in Naughty Baby, and he performed in vaudeville with routines such as English That's Different. On radio he was a panelist on Stop Me If You've Heard This One, played Professor Kropotkin on My Friend Irma, co-hosted Only Yesterday, and was part of The Bickersons, while making frequent guest appearances on The Jack Benny Program. He later provided the voice of Joe Jitsu on The Dick Tracy Show and appeared on series including Gunsmoke, The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, and The Munsters. He was also a featured player in six Three Stooges short comedies from 1953 to 1957.
