Biography

Amanda Brugel is a Canadian actress who was born and raised in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, and made her acting debut in the drama Vendetta (1999). She trained in the theater program at York University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000, and went on to appear in A Diva's Christmas Carol (2000), Sex After Kids (2013), The Calling (2014), Room (2015), and Becky (2020). Her performance in Sex After Kids brought an ACTRA Award and a Canadian Comedy Award nomination. On television, she played Michelle Krasnoff in Seed, Nina Gomez in Kim's Convenience, and Rita Blue in The Handmaid's Tale. She won a Canadian Screen Award for her work on Kim's Convenience and another as part of the Canada's Drag Race judging panel. As a member of The Handmaid's Tale cast, she shared in three Screen Actors Guild Award ensemble nominations.

Brugel began as a dancer, but she quit once she became taller than her partners. She then entered York University's Theatre Program with a Fine Arts talent scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.
