Plot summary
The story is set among Sicilian immigrants who work the docks of New Orleans in the 1890s. When the chief of police, David Hennessy, is murdered, a large part of the city's Sicilian community is brought in for questioning. Nineteen Italian-Americans are accused of the murder. The police force handling the case is corrupt, and the city's general populace is just as dangerous to the Sicilian community.
