Plot summary
A year after her alcoholic father died, Dr. Sonny Blake comes back to her childhood home on Rosewood Lane in Stillwater. She works as a radio talk show psychiatrist. Her father abused her, and she is in therapy with Dr. Cloey Talbot. Her boyfriend, district attorney Barrett Tanner, helps her move in. The neighbors on the lane are terrified of the local paperboy, a warning Sonny finds ridiculous until she encounters the boy herself. The paperboy then calls her show and recites nursery rhymes. Detectives Briggs and Sabatino do not believe her account of what is happening and treat it as her imagination.
