Plot summary
In Los Alamos, New Mexico, in the early 1980s, twelve-year-old Owen is lonely and neglected by his divorcing parents. Kenny, a teenage bully, and two of his friends torment him at school, and Owen lies to his mother about it. Abby, a vampire who lives in secrecy with an older man named Thomas, moves into his building and appears only at night. The two become friends and tap out Morse code through the wall between their apartments. Abby urges Owen to fight Kenny and promises to protect him. Thomas abducts a local teenager and drains his blood into a jug, which he spills; Abby, starving, attacks a neighbor. A detective investigating the killings believes a satanic cult is responsible.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Let Me In (2010)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- For the car-crash sequence, director Matt Reeves wanted it to look like one uncut first-person shot, so crew filmed actor Richard Jenkins swerving the car, then spun a mechanical model of it on a rotisserie rig in front of a blue screen to fake the rollover, digitally blending the two shots into one.
- Before filming, director Matt Reeves sought advice from Steven Spielberg on directing child actors. Spielberg suggested the two young leads each keep an in-character diary that they would later share with Reeves.
- To make Chloë Grace Moretz's character bleed on cue, visual effects supervisor Sean Faden first shot her with minimal prosthetic blood applied for reference, then reused a technique from A Nightmare on Elm Street: Houdini software tracked her shaking movements and rendered the gradual release of blood from her face.
- Novelist John Ajvide Lindqvist publicly objected to a prequel comic based on the film, saying nobody had asked him and that the project stinks; he later discovered he had unknowingly sold the comic rights and said the producers had misled him about the contract he signed.
- The film was shot around Los Alamos, New Mexico, including scenes at Los Alamos High School, and Los Alamos County granted the filmmakers a special request to use the real town's name on screen rather than a fictional stand-in.
