Plot summary

The bus carrying Jason and his friends breaks down, and the students reach Ivanovo, a small village. Jason pulls a sword from a stone, and a giant monster with a body of rock wakes and goes on a killing spree, blending into mountain and stony hills as it heals its wounds. An ancestor of Jason's, Knight Jakivar Lazar, once killed a similar creature with the same sword, and eight hundred years earlier the spirit of the wizard Elas was imprisoned in earth and stones. When Jason tries to call the police from the office of Cassandra's father, the phone line is cut off. At a meeting in the town hall, the Colonel stirs the villagers to fight the monster and tells Jason his sword can kill it.
