Plot summary
Lord Robin of Loxley is an aristocrat and an English longbow master living in Nottingham with Marian until the Sheriff of Nottingham drafts him to fight in the Third Crusade. Four years later he returns to find the Sheriff declared him dead two years earlier, seized his lands and wealth for the war effort and drove the townspeople into a coal mining settlement across the river. There Robin meets a prisoner whose son he once tried to save, an Arabian warrior who calls himself Yahya, or John, and who proposes they take back what the Sheriff took from the people. Marian is now involved with Will Tillman, the aspiring leader of the commoners.

- Robin Hood's studio filming began in Budapest, but when those facilities were lost in a fire, the production moved the remaining studio shoot to the Cité du Cinéma complex north of Paris.
- Taron Egerton was in line to play Robin Hood but nearly didn't sign because of a scheduling clash with the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service; the two studios settled it by starting Robin Hood after he finished that film.
