Plot summary
Shane Tanner works undercover for the DEA in New York. He is Dalton's son, and Dalton was a legendary cooler. A call brings word that his uncle, Nate Tanner, is in a hospital, badly beaten. Wild Bill Decarie, once the cooler at the Black Pelican in Tyree, Louisiana, wants the bar for himself, since its position near the border suits drug-running, and Nate will not sell. Shane travels to Tyree, moves into Nate's house, and takes over the Black Pelican while his uncle recovers. He refuses the offers too, and turns back the men Wild Bill sends. Dalton was shot years ago, when Shane was a rookie state trooper, and Shane still looks for the murderer. Beau Hampton, a local school teacher and a regular at the bar, has a military background.
