Plot summary
On Halloween, three boys pull a prank that leaves a neighbor's scarecrow on fire. To dodge the blame, one of them scrawls an invented name, Ricky Stanicky, supposedly a kid from out of town, on a scrap of discarded costume, and the police take it. Two decades on, Dean, Wes and JT still cite Ricky when they need an excuse. JT's wife Susan is expecting, and Dean is with Erin. The trio tells their partners that Ricky's testicular cancer has returned and that he is on his own in Albany, New York, then goes to Atlantic City, New Jersey, to hear Marc Rebillet play. When Susan goes into labor they hurry home too late. Leona, JT's mother-in-law, doubts Ricky exists, so Dean hires Rod Rimestead, a parody singer, to act the part.
