Dave King

Dave King was an English comedian, actor and singer. Born in Twickenham, he left school at 12 and joined Morton Fraser's Harmonica Gang as a teenager. He became a solo comedy impressionist in 1952 and soon had a weekly radio show, with Sid Green and Dick Hills as scriptwriters. He compered the BBC series Showcase in 1955, starred in The Dave King Show, and moved to ITV with a song, dance and comedy version in 1958. In the mid-1950s he scored four UK Singles Chart hits, including Memories Are Made of This and You Can't Be True to Two. He later became a straight actor, starring in Pirates of Tortuga (1961), The Ritz (1976), Cuba (1979), The Long Good Friday (1980), in which he played Parky, and Revolution (1985). His television work included Pennies From Heaven, Minder and The Sweeney, and he appeared in the theater in Arsenic and Old Lace. He died in 2002.
