Behind the Scenes
Plot summary
A Jacobean revenge tragedy from 1606 is moved to a Liverpool of the future, after a natural disaster wiped out the southern half of Great Britain. Society there is collapsing, and vendettas and crude shows of power are the rule. The Duke is the city's most powerful crime lord. Vindici comes home from exile to avenge the woman murdered on their wedding day. Around the Duke are his son Lussurioso, the Duchess and her sons Supervacuo and Ambitioso. Vindici's own family, among them his brother Carlo and his sister Castiza, has fallen on hard times while the Duke has grown rich. The adaptation rearranges the play and blends its Jacobean language with modern speech.
