Bramwell Fletcher
Biography
Bramwell Fletcher was an English actor who worked across the stage, film, and television. Raised in London after his birth in Yorkshire, he began in stock theater and acted for two seasons with the Shakespeare Company at Stratford-on-Avon before moving to New York in 1929. He first appeared onstage in 1927 and made his Broadway debut as Kent Heathcote in Scotland Yard two years later. His screen debut came with S.O.S. in 1928, and in Britain he took part in the final silent film made there and the first one with sound. He co-starred with John Barrymore in Svengali (1931) and appeared as the assistant driven mad in The Mummy (1932). He left film work in 1943 for theater and television, and wrote and performed in the successful 1965 play The Bernard Shaw Story. In 1969 he was artist-in-residence at Eisenhower College.
