Ronald Colman
Biography
Ronald Colman was an English actor who moved from the British stage and silent films to a major Hollywood career. Born in Richmond, England, in 1891, he first appeared in British films for Cecil Hepworth, and Henry King cast him opposite Lillian Gish in The White Sister (1923). He became a popular silent star in romantic and adventure films, including The Winning of Barbara Worth (1926). His distinctive voice helped him transition to sound, and he earned Academy Award nominations for Bulldog Drummond (1929) and Condemned (1929), plus another for Random Harvest (1942). He appeared in A Tale of Two Cities (1935), Lost Horizon (1937), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), Raffles (1930), The Talk of the Town (1942), and Champagne for Caesar (1950). He won the Best Actor Oscar and Golden Globe for A Double Life (1947). He also starred in the radio comedy The Halls of Ivy from 1950 until 1952.
