Alison Skipworth
Biography
Alison Skipworth was an English actress. She began on stage at Daly's Theatre in London in 1894 with A Gaiety Girl, and performed in New York City the following year. Her light opera work included An Artist's Model, and she joined Daniel Frohman's Lyceum company. In 1897 she played Mrs. Ware in the play The Princess and the Butterfly. She later toured Shakespeare with Viola Allen in Cymbeline, Twelfth Night and As You Like It. She entered films in 1912 with A Mardi Gras Mix-Up and made her first talkie, Strictly Unconventional, in 1930. She was W. C. Fields's foil in four movies, among them Six of a Kind (1934), If I Had a Million (1932), Tillie and Gus (1933) and Alice in Wonderland (1933). Her later films included Ladies in Distress, Wide Open Faces, King of the Newsboys, The Girl from 10th Avenue and The Casino Murder Case. She worked on screen until 1938.
