Plot summary
A woman in exotic dress is discovered in the fields of Regency England, speaking a language that no one around her can follow. She is brought to the household of the Worralls, the local gentry. Mr Worrall wants a magistrate to try her for vagrancy, while Mrs Worrall prefers to keep her. Frixos, the family's Greek butler, takes her for a fraud from the start. By mime, the woman presents herself as Princess Caraboo, and Mr Gutch, a printer and newspaper reporter, follows the case.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Princess Caraboo (1994)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film retells a real Regency-era imposture: the woman known as Princess Caraboo talked her way into British society in the 19th century by speaking an invented foreign language and passing herself off as an exotic royal.
- Playing the fake princess was the last screen role for Phoebe Cates, who stepped away from acting after the film in order to bring up her children.
