Plot summary
In 1950 Boston, the private security company Brink's is known for the unbreachable security of its headquarters in the North End. Small-time crook Tony Pino stumbles on the fact that the building is far less protected than its reputation suggests. He and his crew rob a parked Brink's armored car of more than $100,000. Dressed as a spark plug salesman, Tony walks inside and finds that almost no doors are locked and the alarm in the vault room is cheap. From a neighboring rooftop he watches the building and gathers a gang: his brother-in-law Vinnie Costa, Jazz Maffie, Specs O'Keefe and fence Joe McGinnis, whose inclusion the others resent.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Brink's Job (1978)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- In August 1978, 15 unedited reels of the film were stolen at gunpoint. The $1 million ransom was never paid because the robbers had hijacked outtakes and dailies; the film was replaced with no significant delay, and their ransom call triggered an FBI investigation.
- During production, conflicts with Teamsters Union members led to four indictments and two convictions of Teamsters for attempts to solicit non-existent jobs.
- The film is based on the real 1950 Brink's robbery in Boston, in which robbers stole $2.7 million in cash, checks and government securities, and on Noel Behn's book Big Stick-Up at Brinks.
