Plot summary

Wendy Wu is a popular Chinese-American teenager in Fair Springs, California, whose mind is fixed on one prize: the homecoming crown. Shen, a young Buddhist monk, arrives with a claim that she is the reincarnation of a great female warrior and the only person who can stop an evil spirit, Yan-Lo, from destroying the world. He begs her to wear an amulet that will protect her until he can train her in martial arts. Wendy's grandmother believes him, since her mother was the Yin Warrior before her and beat Yan-Lo in China ninety years earlier, but the rest of the family has lost touch with its Chinese heritage. Wendy would rather shop with her friends Tory and Lisa than fight evil, and Yan-Lo sets out to destroy her before her training is complete.
