Plot summary

Eight people drop into a jungle and meet after landing: Royce, a mercenary; Cuchillo, a cartel enforcer; Nikolai, a Russian soldier; Isabelle, a sniper; Mombasa, a militia soldier from Sierra Leone; Stans, a death row inmate; Hanzo, a Yakuza enforcer; and Edwin, a physician. Following Royce, they find a monument, cages with no occupants, and traps rigged among the trees, along with a sky crowded with moons and planets, so they know they are not on Earth. After a pack of alien beasts attacks them in concert, Royce reasons that the planet serves as a hunting preserve and the humans are its prey.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Predators (2010)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Robert Rodriguez wrote a third Predator script for 20th Century Fox in 1994 while waiting to make Desperado, and the studio refused it because the budget would be too large. Fifteen years later Fox found the script again and decided to go with it.
  • Nimrod Antal and Rodriguez deliberately refused to cast anyone built like Arnold Schwarzenegger, reasoning that real soldiers are wiry rather than burly. Antal said he could make anybody look tough but could not teach anybody how to act.
  • Rodriguez hoped Arnold Schwarzenegger would appear in a cameo as Dutch, the character he played in the original Predator, but the appearance never happened.
  • Oleg Taktarov, a retired mixed martial artist and former Ultimate Fighting Champion playing the Spetsnaz soldier Nikolai, hit his face on a steadicam during a scene and carried on filming while bleeding because the blood added to the effect.
  • Louis Ozawa Changchien used his own kendo training for the duel in which the yakuza Hanzo fights a Predator with a katana, because Antal, a kendo fan, insisted the sword fight look authentic.
  • Composer John Debney built the creatures' sound from unusual sources, recording Tibetan long horns to create squeals and screams and manipulating metal scrapes and ethnic percussion for the Predators' world.
