Plot summary

Pootie Tang grows up in a small town outside Gary, Indiana, where he loses his mother, Momma Dee, and then his father, Daddy Tang, killed by a gorilla at the steel mill. His father leaves him a belt and tells him that while right is on his side he can beat anyone with it, and warns him not to let women come between him and it. As a young man Pootie sings in nightclubs, records hit songs, speaks to children in public service announcements, and stops wrongdoers with the belt. Dick Lecter, chief operating officer of LecterCorp, sees that Pootie's standing with the public hurts his bottom line. His henchmen and the villain Dirty Dee are turned back by Pootie's friends, so Lecter asks Ireenie, his right-hand woman, to draw Pootie in.
