Policarpo, ufficiale di scrittura (1959) on Netflix

Plot summary

In a Rome ministry, Policarpo De Tappetti works as a calligrapher, and his excesses of zeal have drawn the antipathy of his office manager, Cavalier Cesare Pancarano di Rondò. The cavalier believes he descends from the reigning Savoy dynasty and pays for genealogical research to prove it. The families meet by chance, and the cavalier's son falls in love with Celeste, Policarpo's daughter. Her parents press her to accept the young man, foreseeing a brilliant wedding, and Policarpo sees the match as the answer to the work aspirations that have gone unmet for years. The cavalier, who considers himself of noble lineage, would rather see his son marry a young lady of the great world.
