Plot summary
Max, a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust, has lost his family and any hope for a future of his own when the war ends. In occupied Germany in 1945 he meets a group of Jewish resistance fighters who have lost as much as he has. They want an eye for an eye for the Jewish people, and their aim is an operation that would kill six million Germans, beginning with the drinking water of several major cities. They see that poisoning as only the first step. Max is drawn toward the group and its plans, and he begins to identify with their purpose.
