Permanent (2017) on Netflix

Plot summary

The Dicksons have moved from Washington, D.C., to a small town in Virginia. Jim, a former steward on Air Force One, is studying on a scholarship to become a physician; Jeanne works at the local chicken shack. Their daughter Aurelie is the new girl at school and wants the curls the local Farrah Fawcett types wear. Her parents take her to a beauty school, where a discounted permanent goes badly wrong. At school the popular girls mock her and throw things, and Lydia, the only black girl at school, rebuffs her attempts at friendship. Aurelie joins karate classes so she can defend herself. Jim wears a hairpiece and has been told he must take a swimming class to receive his scholarship.
