Plot summary
Alfred Moretti, a pop superstar, announces an album, his first in three decades, and invites six guests to hear it at his compound in Utah. The group includes Ariel Ecton, a journalist. Each guest receives merchandise, the album and a book. At the compound, staff in denim uniforms take away the guests' phones and other devices. Moretti says he belongs to the Levelists, who follow the book. Ariel finds the atmosphere unsettling. The other guests are glad to be near him. A Levelist is assigned to each guest, and Belle watches Ariel closely rather than helping her.
