Plot summary
Nine-year-old orphan Oliver Twist is taken to a workhouse by the beadle Mr. Bumble, and after he asks for more food he is apprenticed to the undertaker Mr. Sowerberry. He runs away and spends seven days traveling to London, where Jack Dawkins, known as the Artful Dodger, brings him to Fagin, who lodges a band of boy pickpockets. Oliver also meets Nancy, once Fagin's pupil, who is in love with Bill Sikes.
