Plot summary
Alien forces invaded Earth and have occupied it for two years. What is left of humanity in Sydney has organized into a resistance, and its fighters are caught up in a ground war whose casualties grow steadily worse. Word reaches the resistance of an alien operation called Rainfall, which is connected to a location named Pine Gap. Nobody knows what Rainfall is or what it will do. Three people set out to gather whatever they can, and one of the three is an alien that has defected to the human side. The invaders, meanwhile, are treating the planet as a place to settle.
