Plot summary
Donna Stern works in a bookstore and performs stand-up at a New York comedy club, where her sets are drawn from her own life. Her boyfriend Ryan ends their relationship in the club bathroom, and her next performance, delivered drunk, goes badly. At the bar afterward she meets Max, a graduate student who missed her set, and the two spend the night together; Donna slips out the next morning without saying goodbye. Weeks later, soreness while trying on clothes and a home pregnancy test tell her she is pregnant. She visits a clinic to arrange an abortion and takes an appointment for Valentine's Day.
