November Criminals (2017) on Netflix

Plot summary

Addison Schacht is an eighteen-year-old high school senior in Washington, D.C., finishing his application to the University of Chicago and grieving the death of his mother six months earlier. He and his friend Phoebe Zeleny stop at a bakery for coffee and greet Kevin Broadus, a classmate who works there as a barista. Not long after they drive away, a motorcyclist arrives at the bakery and Kevin is gunned down inside. A cameraman at the crime scene tells Addison the killing was probably gang-related, but Addison doubts Kevin had any connection to a gang. Convinced the authorities are dismissing the case and that his classmates are ready to move on, Addison puts up posters at school asking anyone with information to come forward, and takes Kevin's school file without permission.
