Plot summary
Mac Radner and Kelly Radner are settling into life with their infant daughter, Stella, and the routines of parenthood have distanced them from their friends Jimmy Blevins and Paula. Delta Psi Beta, a fraternity with a reputation for wild parties, moves into the house beside theirs. Its president, Teddy Sanders, and vice-president, Pete Regazolli, want a huge end-of-year blowout that will put them in Delta Psi's Hall of Fame. Teddy brings the couple into one of the fraternity's parties, where Kelly meets his girlfriend, Brooke Shy, and shows Mac a room holding fireworks and the house's breaker box. Teddy promises to hold the volume down, asking only that Mac and Kelly telephone him instead of calling the police.

- Neighbors was made for $18 million, more than 50% less than the average film budget, and the squeeze meant all of the actors had to take major pay cuts.
- The story was first written as a war between Seth Rogen's character and a fraternity, but director Nicholas Stoller rewrote it because it was too close to Old School, turning Rogen's wife into his partner-in-crime. Rose Byrne's part grew from a footnote into a full co-conspirator.
- To get extra first-person perspective, cameras and iPhones were handed out to extras, partygoers and cast members to shoot additional footage.
