Plot summary
The Hour of Enchantment radio show needs a replacement for its singer, Gary Mitchell, and his former manager, Doug Blake, goes to New York to find one. There he comes across Martha Gibson, a widow with a small son, Freddie, who works turning records in a jukebox factory, and he brings her to Los Angeles. Selling her to Felix Hofer, the sponsor of the program, proves difficult, and his attempts keep going wrong. Vivian Martin, Doug's co-worker, puts up money for a share of his earnings and takes Martha and Freddie into her home. Martha is drawn to Gary, while Doug's feelings for her grow as they work together.
