Plot summary
Jack grows up in Pieve di Cento with two older sisters, Chiara and Alice, and parents named Davide and Katia. When his baby brother Giovanni, called Gio, arrives, the family learns that the boy has Down syndrome. Jack's parents encourage the notion that Gio is a special child, and Jack pictures his brother as a superhero. Years later Jack and his best friend Vittorio must choose a high school. There he meets Arianna, falls for her, and picks the school she is going to, with Vittorio following him. Shy and eager to be like the older students, he joins Arianna's group and the band of two boys he admires most. At school he says nothing about Gio, and his silence grows into a lie.
