Plot summary
Geppetto, a wood carver, finds a magical log and shapes it into a puppet he calls Pinocchio. The puppet springs to life, races through the streets and turns the town upside down, and the Carabinieri blame Geppetto and take him to prison. A talking cricket scolds him for the way he behaves, and the hungry puppet promises his father he will go to school, though he dreads it. Geppetto sells his only coat to buy the schoolbooks. Instead, Pinocchio joins a puppet theater, where the puppet master Mangiafuoco nearly eats him, and later meets the Fox and the Cat, who urge him to plant his gold coins for a money tree in the Miracle Meadow. The Blue Fairy wants him to give up his old behavior.
