Plot summary
The composer Fred Ballinger and the film director Mick Boyle have been friends for decades and are spending a vacation at a luxury spa hotel in the Swiss Alps. Fred, retired, no longer performs in public. Mick is writing, with a group of writers, the screenplay he calls his testament. An emissary of Queen Elizabeth II offers Fred a knighthood and asks him to conduct again at a concert for Prince Philip's birthday. Also at the hotel is Fred's daughter Lena, who works as his assistant.
