Plot summary
By 2707 Earth's natural resources are nearly spent, and four Corporations, Mishima, Bauhaus, Capitol and Imperial, fight a constant war over what remains. A battle between Capitol and Bauhaus breaks the seal on a machine that came from space thousands of years earlier. The machine turns people into mutants, barely intelligent killers that drag fresh victims back for conversion. Millions are stranded on Earth while others have been evacuated to Mars. Brother Samuel, leader of an ancient brotherhood and a believer in the Chronicles, the ancient record of the mutants, goes to Constantine, the Corporations' leader, to ask for a plane and twenty soldiers for a mission to carry a bomb into the machine. He recruits Major Mitch Hunter among others.
