Plot summary
Sally Linden lives in Canada with her husband, Leonard Bast, who has just published a book, while nothing of hers has been published in ten years. In their basement she finds a yellow notebook in which she wrote her thoughts each day while serving on a jury in Honolulu in 1993, at the murder trial of Theresa Nichol. Theresa and her husband Vincent Nichol had admitted robbing tourists, and in the shooting of one of them, Bobby Gordon, Vincent was the only eyewitness the prosecution had. Theresa was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. The notebook stirs old memories in Sally, and she becomes obsessed with the verdict that sent Theresa to prison.
