Plot summary
Beth Sohapi is throwing a birthday party for her husband Daniel at their house, with their friends Treshawn and Gina Jackson, George Barnum, his girlfriend Melissa McGuire, Annette Langston and Julie Ross. A tornado is heading their way, and Daniel tells the guests the basement is safe. Three brothers, Ike, Addley and Johnny, head for their mother's house after a bank robbery goes wrong; Johnny is badly wounded, and the place they find now belongs to the Sohapis. The brothers hold the partygoers at gunpoint, and Beth offers the help of George, a doctor, to treat Johnny. Ike phones his sister Lydia, who says she and their mother are coming. Mother arrives in an RV and takes control, telling the hostages that nobody has to be harmed.

- While filming a post-bank-robbery scene for Mother's Day, the Winnipeg Police Service interrupted production because officers were actually investigating a real robbery that had taken place in the city earlier that same day.
- Director Darren Lynn Bousman said that a 20-minute scene, which he called his favorite moment in Mother's Day, was cut from the finished film because it did not flow with the rest of it.
