Plot summary

Patrick manages a shale oil operation in Mongolia funded by an American corporation, and mechanical failures there have him worried. The drilling has disturbed a nest of creatures known in local legend as Mongolian death worms: enormous worms with vicious teeth, poisonous venom and a field that disrupts electronics. After a worker is killed, the crew stays away. Across the desert in Sepegal village, volunteer medics are fighting a disease outbreak, and two of them, Alicia and Phillip, hire treasure hunter Daniel to bring them and their supplies there. Daniel has found artifacts engraved with the worms' images, which he reads as clues to Genghis Khan's tomb, and his activities have angered crime boss Kowlan. On the road, his truck breaks down, and Kowlan's men seize the group. Officer Timur, Daniel's friend, finds the abandoned vehicle and goes looking.
