Plot summary
Sidney Preston, a White House aide, makes off with four million dollars of government money and hides it in four places. Two government spies, Fred and Bob, are hunting him. He pulls into a diner beside an Arizona highway for a bowl of chili and flirts with the waitress, Dotty. A heart attack kills him there; he asks Dotty for a kiss and then tells the onlookers that the first million lies in the city of the bridge. The other customers are the Briggs family, the newlyweds Rollie and Lollie, the singer Crush with his dancers Faith, Hope and Charity, and Dotty with her brother Tugger. They doubt him until Rollie turns on the news and hears that Sidney was born in El Puente, Arizona. The diner empties as the patrons race off to find the money.
