Plot summary
In the late 1970s, the jazz musician Miles Davis has been out of public view for five years. He lives alone, slowed by a deteriorating hip and dulled by drugs and painkillers, and a Scottish music reporter, Dave Braden, pushes his way into the house. When a tape of Davis's newest compositions is stolen, the two men spend the next couple of days trying to get it back. Davis's memories run back to Frances Taylor, the dancer he married in 1959. She was his muse through a run of signature records, and their nine-year marriage was shadowed by infidelity and abuse.
