Plot summary
Robo-Rita, a mechanical double of Rita Repulsa, surfaces with her Putties, and Billy Cranston summons his former allies. The robot vaporizes Trini Kwan as she throws herself in front of him and then withdraws. Billy and Zack Taylor must tell Minh, Trini's newly orphaned daughter, what happened. A year on, Zack is Minh's only guardian, and the two join the rest of the team at Trini's graveside for the anniversary of her death, where Robo-Rita, Robo-Snizzard and Robo-Minotaur lie in wait. Robo-Snizzard seizes Jason Lee Scott, Tommy Oliver and Kimberly Hart and locks them inside a machine. Minh bristles when Zack and Billy refuse to let her join the recovery mission, and she blames Billy for her mother's death.

- Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson were both approached to appear in the special but turned it down: Johnson cited personal reasons, while Frank felt he had done enough for the franchise and wanted to focus on his film Legend of the White Dragon. - After Jason David Frank's death, the special's ending was followed by a clip from the season 2 episode "The Song of Guitardo," in which Kimberly and Zack play a song to ease Tommy's anxiety over losing his Green Ranger powers, leading into the episode's dedication to Thuy Trang and Frank.
- Austin St. John was unable to leave the country for the special because of his May 2022 indictment in an alleged scheme to defraud the Paycheck Protection Program.
- The special's title comes from "Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger," the long-standing Power Rangers phrase, which was first spoken by Jason David Frank's Tommy Oliver in the two-part season premiere of Power Rangers Zeo.
