Mermaid (2025) on Netflix

Plot summary

Doug Nelson lives in Fort Lauderdale, divorced, addicted to Percocet and short on money. His job at a strip club ends, and his supplier Ron Bocca and Ron's son Gator poison his pet fish over an unpaid delivery. Out on the water with nothing left, Doug spots a wounded mermaid and brings her home. He shelters her in his bathtub, treats her injuries and names her Destiny. She is feral, and he begins treating the arrangement as a relationship, taking her out in disguise and in a wheelchair, which unsettles the few people still close to him. When word gets out about his secret, he takes it upon himself to protect her.
