Plot summary

Sylvia is a single mother who works as a social worker and is in recovery from alcoholism. She would rather skip her high school reunion, but she goes with Olivia, her younger sister. A man sits down beside her and smiles, and she is unsettled by him. She leaves the event, and he trails her to her house and stands in the rain outside. When morning comes, she discovers him asleep on the ground, soaked and hardly responsive. She learns that his name is Saul, and she calls Isaac, his brother, to collect him. At their house, an apology is offered to her: Saul has early onset dementia, which leaves him disoriented and confused and makes it hard for him to recall or form memories.
