Jessica Harper
Biography
Jessica Harper is an American actress, singer and author whose first feature film work was a starring part in Phantom of the Paradise (1974), directed by Brian De Palma. She went on to appear in Inserts (1975), Love and Death (1975) and My Favorite Year (1982). Her best known part is the ballerina Suzy Bannion, the lead in Dario Argento's Suspiria (1977), which earned her a Photoplay Award nomination; she also turned up in a minor capacity in the 2018 Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino, a performance that won her an Independent Spirit Award. Later credits include Stardust Memories (1980), Shock Treatment (1981), Pennies from Heaven (1981), Safe (1995), Bones and All (2022) and Nightbitch (2024), the last bringing a Chlotrudis Award nomination for supporting work. For television she joined the fourth season of It's Garry Shandling's Show, winning a CableAce Award. She has written eleven children's books and made seven albums of children's songs.
