Plot summary
Abbie Polin collapses with a heart attack while operating, and instructs the colleagues around him on what to give him. He settles into a hospital room wired to monitors. Watching old home movies there with Lisa, a pediatrician, he lets slip that his father is still alive; his parents split up when he was seven and his mother is in Vermont. He goes to Los Angeles, where Abe works as an extra, and tags along to a shoot where Abe plays a hospital patient. In a bar favored by extras Abe is well liked, asks after Abbie's mother and why he has come, then slips away and calls him from the pay phone.
